ABOUT US

For over 30 years, Seattle Singles Yacht Club has been a lively boating community right here in Seattle. Whether you’re into day sailing, cruising, sailboat racing, or power boating, SSYC brings people together to enjoy the water—and great company.

We are not your standard yacht club.

Our members own everything from sailboats to powerboats, and we love sharing boating adventures. Boat owners can find eager crew for day trips, races, overnight sails, and even exciting trips abroad.

Don’t have a boat? No problem! SSYC is a fantastic place to meet fellow boat lovers who are happy to crew and join in on all kinds of fun boating events around Seattle.

Off the water, our club is buzzing with social events. We host weekly Happy Hours, dance nights, and organize trips to some pretty amazing destinations. As a 100% volunteer-run club, SSYC thrives on the energy and involvement of its members.

SSYC is a registered 501(c)(7) non-profit, led by a passionate board of volunteers who keep this community welcoming and active for boaters of all kinds.

We are run by our members

SSYC is organized and run by the membership. Our members decide the objectives of the club on an ongoing basis and we strive to attract other like-minded individuals.

Club leadership is provided by members elected by the membership into roles such as Commodore, Vice Commodore, Rear Commodore, Treasurer, Secretary, and Past Commodore. The roles of Fleet Captain and Member at Large are appointed positions.

There are many volunteer opportunities available other than these positions. SSYC has volunteers that host our happy hours as well as plan our dances, organize racing events, etc.

Due to our affinity for boating and socializing, we have formed tight relationships in the club over the years that have resulted in life long friendships, long term relationships and marriage.

In the case of members who marry, we have a branch of membership known as Associate Membership.

An Associate Membership enjoys all of the boating and socializing benefits of a standard Annual Membership but does not have voting rights or the right to hold office.

Our History

Seattle Singles Yacht Club (SSYC) began in 1991 when a group of single adults in Seattle united over their shared passion for boating and community. Originally named the Seattle Singles Sailing Club, the club reflected its early focus on sailboat owners. As the club grew and welcomed more members who owned power boats, the name was changed to Seattle Singles Yacht Club to celebrate the diverse boating interests of our members. Still, our club burgee proudly features a sailboat, honoring our rich sailing heritage.

Over three decades, SSYC has blossomed into more than just a Seattle boating club—it’s a vibrant social community where friendships deepen and couples meet and marry. To keep our close-knit community thriving, SSYC created an Associate Membership category for couples, available to those where at least one member has been part of the club for one year or longer. Both members typically remain active and contribute dues, with special exceptions offered for those whose spouses cannot participate due to unique circumstances.

As a dedicated non-profit boating organization in Seattle, SSYC proudly supports Northwest Harvest, a leading local hunger relief charity. Each fall, we host our signature fundraising event featuring a thrilling sailing race, lively auction, dinner, and dance. Thanks to our members' generosity and participation, Northwest Harvest has secured over one million meals for families in need across the Pacific Northwest.

SSYC offers a full calendar of engaging boating and social events designed to connect members, relax, and most importantly, have fun. Our activities range from sailboat and powerboat excursions to whale watching, happy hours, house parties, pig roasts, wine tastings, Halloween costume contests, and festive boat outings to view the Christmas ships. Originally, the club gathered Monday nights at the Elks Club in Shilshole; today, our welcoming meetings take place at the Puget Sound Yacht Club on the scenic north shore of Lake Union.

Whether you’re a seasoned sailor or a newcomer to the Seattle boating scene, SSYC’s rich history and active community offer the perfect blend of adventure, friendship, and fun on the water.
